Softball - Pasadena Memorial junior Hannah Garca (9) had ten strikeouts and allowed only four hits as the Lady Mavs shut out North Shore 1-0 in the first of a best of three playoff series at the San Jacinto South Campus Thursday, April 27.

The lone run for the Lady Mavs came in the bottom of the fourth inning when freshman Reagan Gallagher (7) scored off a fielder’s choice when senior Patty Ortiz (11) hit a ground ball in the infield.

A double play later in the sixth inning proved to be one of the night’s biggest highlights for the Lady Mavs. Outfielder Katelynn Torres (1) caught a fly ball in left field and fired a perfect throw to third base just beating North Shore’s Priscilla Lopez (1), who was trying to advance after tagging second.

In the top of the seventh, Garca had two of her 10 strikeouts and third baseman Tori Garivey (12) caught an infield pop up to seal the win for the Lady Mavs.

Memorial plays again at 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 28 at North Shore high school. Depending on the outcome of tonight’s game, the Lady Mavs will either advance to take on the winner of Pearland and Clear Creek or they will play North Shore again for the series deciding game Saturday morning at a to be announced location.
