Administrators, board members, community members, students and teachers all recently gathered at Dobie High School’s ninth grade campus for a dedication ceremony of the new building. The ninth grade campus, affectionately referred to as Dobie9, officially became the home for Longhorn freshmen in January of 2018.

The dedication ceremony held this week officially signaled the completion of the state-of-the-art facility. The event included speeches by Dobie9 Principal Mike Van Essen, Dobie Main Principal Franklin Moses, Superintendent of Schools Dr. DeeAnn Powell, a video presentation and the taking of a commemorative photo where attendees lined up to form the number nine on the gym floor.

Van Essen stated that since the opening of the new ninth grade campus several key numbers are on the rise, for which he credits to the design of the building and the dedication of the staff.

“Educators are data driven people,” said Van Essen. “The number of students that have received all their freshman credits and passed end of year exams has increased by 4%. Overall attendance at Dobie has increased by 2%, which translates to 20 students per day and the highest attendance rate of any Pasadena ISD comprehensive high school.”
