Dobie softball soon-to-be senior Camryn Wincher was named to the USA Today Sports ALL-USA High School Softball Third Team selection for the 2018-19 season.

The team consists of 30 of the best high school softball players across the nation, who have been selected based on “high school performance, level of competition and strength of schedule,” according to the article.

This comes at no surprise for the record-shattering three-year varsity starter. Wincher finished first this past season in Region 3 6A with 63 RBI’s -- a record-breaking first for the Longhorns.

The second baseman batted .459 with an on-base percentage of .550. She hit five home runs with 13 doubles and four triples. During the playoffs, against Clear Springs, she hit a grand slam that led the Longhorns to the quarterfinal round for the first time since 2012.

Wincher is ranked No. 7 in the state of Texas and No. 17 nationally and is the only student in the Houston area to be selected to the USA team.

Her father, Leslie, attributes the accomplishment to years of hard work.

“She’s been practicing since she was five years old,” Leslie said. “She hasn’t lived a typical teenage life. She comes home and practices after school. She made the all-academic team. It’s a balance that she has found. I think that’s why she will be so successful in life.”

As one of the top female athletes in the area, she has already committed to Michigan State University on a full athletic scholarship for 2020.

“It makes me feel really good to know that all the hard work has paid off because not every teenage girl has the opportunity to be part of something like this,” said Camryn.
