Schneider Middle School teacher Juliette Broussard has been named one of the top six finalists for the 2020 Texas Teacher of the Year award, the highest honor a teacher can receive in the state of Texas.

Pasadena ISD Superintendent Dr. DeeAnn Powell personally delivered the good news as she paid a surprise visit to Broussard’s classroom.

“We’re so proud of Mrs. Broussard and wish her luck with the next phase of the competition,” Dr. Powell said.

Broussard was selected as a top contender out of a pool of 40 Regional Teachers of the Year -- 20 elementary and 20 secondary -- from each of the 20 Education Service Centers in Texas.

As a finalist for the state-level award, Broussard will participate in an interview process for the chance to be the Texas Teacher of the Year.

Awarded by the Texas Association of School Administrators, the Teacher of the Year program annually recognizes educators who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and excellence in teaching.

The Teacher of the Year award designee will be announced during the TASA’s annual banquet on October 25, 2019.
