All State Students

Chanse MorrisDobie High School senior Chanse Morris made Longhorn history earlier this month when he was selected for the fourth consecutive year as an All-State honoree for band. Morris, along with 7 additional students from across the district will be performing at the Texas Music Educators Association Conference in San Antonio this February.

Students named as All-State members are required to audition at the district, region and area levels. Over 60,000 students statewide auditioned in the process, but according to Pasadena ISD Director of Fine Arts Linda Fletcher, only about one percent receive the All-State recognition.

“What this means for Chanse, is that he not only is in the top one percent in the state of Texas in band, he also is in the one percent of those students who are selected to All-State all four years in their high school careers,” said Fletcher.

Additional honorees from Dobie High School are: Elissa Nguyen for viola, Carlos Omar Amaro for string bass, Nick Engle for cornet/trumpet and Roberto Zavaleta for clarinet.

Memorial High School’s Kyle Shores was selected for french horn, Rayburn High School’s  Nadjalie Santos for choir and South Houston High School’s Aaron Pena was also selected for choir.

“We are sending a total of 8 students this year and we know that this number will continue to grow each year,” said Fletcher. “We want to extend our congratulations to our outstanding students, their directors, and private lesson teachers who have taught them well and helped them through this process.”
