7657Pasadena’s boys soccer team, fresh off a title in the Pasadena Cup tournament, kicked off District 22-5A play on Friday with a 2-0 victory over Pearland at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The victory left the Eagles unbeaten for the month of January. Gavin Bruce’s team hiked its overall record to 4-0-2.

The Eagles have outscored their first six opponents by a combined 16-4.

Senior Julio Montano gave Pasadena a 1-0 lead just over 15 minutes into the game on a goal off a free kick. Just over six minutes later, junior Julio Jimenez provided the Eagles’ second goal on a break down the sideline.

Pasadena’s victory came the expense of Jesse Saavedra, Pearland’s first-year head coach. Saavedra made the switch from Dobie after leading the Longhorns to the regional finals last year.
