Two Pasadena ISD P.E. teachers were selected as grant recipients for the annual Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (TAHPERD) convention in Galveston.

Danielle Amaya of Gardens Elementary and Eddie Carlton of McMasters Elementary were selected from over 2,000 teachers for educating students about heart disease during the Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart event. Only 35 physical education teachers in Texas were chosen for this honor.

Both teachers coordinated the school’s annual Jump Rope for Heart (JRFH) campaign, under the American Heart Association and TAHPERD. The program educates students about heart disease and promotes physical activity, heart healthy living and community involvement. Additionally, all money raised through JRFH provides funding for educational programs and research.

Amaya and Carlton had the honor to attend the 2014 TAHPERD Annual Convention in Galveston and received a one year TAHPERD professional membership. They will also be recognized at the 2015 TAHPERD summer conference in San Marcos in July.
