The Pasadena ISD Board of Trustees’ tradition of providing excellence in leadership is gaining attention at the state level.

The trustees have been named finalists for the best school board in Texas in the 2015 H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards program.

This prestigious honor recognizes school boards that demonstrate strong leadership in the community. The Pasadena ISD School Board is among only five in the state chosen as finalists.

As a result, the board will receive a $5,000 grant in February to benefit the district. H-E-B will announce district distinctions at a banquet in May.

The H-E-B awards program celebrates public school professionals whose leadership and dedication inspire a love of learning in students of all backgrounds and abilities.

With more than $800,000 in cash prizes awarded annually to deserving teachers, principals, school districts and early childhood facilities and school boards, H-E-B Excellence in Education is the largest monetary recognition program for educators in Texas and one of the largest in the nation.

“Community members and district staff frequently express appreciation to the Board of Trustees for their work, commitment and dedication to the students and staff of Pasadena ISD,” School Superintendent Dr. Kirk Lewis, said. “It is a fitting honor for them to be recognized for their leadership and excellence of service. Congratulations.”

The Pasadena ISD Board of Trustees include Mariselle Quijano-Lerma, president; Vickie Morgan, vice president; Fred Roberts, secretary; Marshall Kendrick, assistant secretary; Jack Bailey, member; Larry Savala, member; and Nelda Sullivan, member.
