Check Mate! Saturday, Feb. 7, marked the fifth annual Spring Chess Exhibition for Pasadena ISD held at Beverly Hills Intermediate School.

A total of 228 students participated, which is the highest number in the history of the event. There were 33 campuses represented, including five high schools, 10 intermediate schools, eight middle schools and 10 elementary schools.

Of those campuses participating, 30 of the schools were from Pasadena ISD. Pearland ISD and Deer Park ISD also participated.

Each student played five games, receiving one point for each win and a half-point for each draw.

"Super job across the board," said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kirk Lewis. "I’m proud of this effort and believe it will pay dividends for these students in the years to come."
