The Dobie High School Academic Decathlon Team was recognized by Board of Trustees at the April meeting for their exemplary performance at the Texas Academic Decathlon State Tournament in San Antonio.

The Academic Decathlon promotes student achievement and learning by challenging students in various academic subjects. Teams are comprised of up to nine students who are tested in 10 categories including Art, Economics, Essays, Interviews, Language and Literature, Math, Music, Science, Social Science and Speech. Students can compete as a team or individually in each subject.

The team placed sixth overall, fourth in the Super Quiz and took home several individual medals. Vincent Gonzales received the fifth highest point total in the honors division and Jacob Little took home the state title with the most individual points in the Varsity Division.

“These students have a passion for learning and have worked hard to make it to this level,” Dobie High School principal Franklin Moses said. “We are extremely proud of all seven members and coaches Steven Higginbotham and Todd Geries for their dedication.”
