Bob Fay (second from the right), SHHS Class of 1959 and the Trojans' original "Hector" mascot, presents a check for $7,000 to South Houston Principal Dr. Steve Fullen to cover the cost of the school's new football entrance tunnel. Fay, a member of the South Houston HS Alumni Association's Board of Directors, is also joined by Saranya Taylor, the director of the school's drill and cheerleader squads, and Head Football Coach Dwayne Lane.
sideWhen the South Houston High football team races onto the field next season, it’ll be through a brand new point of entry.

Thanks to a sizable donation from the South Houston High School Alumni Association, the Trojans will storm the field in 2015 through a new inflatable entrance tunnel – this one shaped like a Trojan football helmet.

The design includes a bright red plume and facemask adorning a gray helmet.

The Alumni Association recently presented a check for $7,000 to cover the full cost of the entrance tunnel.

The tunnel represents the second major contribution to the school by SHHS alumni. The group last year provided the bulk of the funding for a new cargo trailer for the Trojan band.

The association’s current goal is to cover setup expenses for the new South Houston High Hall of History, a museum preserving the academic and cultural history of the school since its opening in 1957.

The Hall of History is set to open at Homecoming, Oct. 16, 2015.

Alumni, faculty and former faculty who contribute at least $50 to the Hall of History drive will receive recognition on a “founding donors” plaque to be placed at the entrance to the museum. The deadline for contributions is Sept. 1, 2015.

The bulk of the funding for the Hall of History has been provided by Bob Allen, a former all-state football player for the Trojans and a member of the SHHS Class of 1965.
