sideThe Pasadena ISD Athletics Hall of Fame welcomed six new members during its annual induction banquet at Phillips Field House on April 11.

About 400 guests, district administrators and student-athletes were on hand to witness and participate in the fourth annual event. David McWilliams, who played and then served as head coach for the University of Texas football team, assisted in the ceremony as guest emcee.

Two of McWilliams' players from his days as a UT assistant coach were inducted: Steve Oxley, a 1969 Rayburn graduate, played in the offensive line for the Longhorns from 1970 to 1972; and Randy McEachern, a 1974 Dobie graduate, played quarterback for UT in 1977 and 1978.

Other former Pasadena ISD athletes inducted were are David Webb, Pasadena High Class of 1959, a four-sport standout who later played football at Lamar; Jeff Wylie, Pasadena High Class of 1987, who went on to star in the high jump at Baylor; and Kyla Hall Holas, South Houston High Class of 1990, who enjoyed an All-American softball career as a pitcher for Southwestern Louisiana and now serves as head coach of the University of Houston softball team.

All of the former athletes were present except for Holas, who was with her UH squad for weekend games in Florida. She was represented by her husband, John Holas, and her mother, Ginger Carte.

Also inducted was Scott Talton, who won a record 500 games during his celebrated career as coach of the Dobie boys basketball team. Talton, who passed away in 2009, was  represented by his widow, Vicki Talton. The Talton contingent also included more than three dozen family members, friends and former Dobie players.

For the first time, four Pasadena ISD seniors were awarded scholarships at the banquet. Memorial seniors Jacob Minter and Breanna Aaron received scholarships presented annually by the Hall of Fame to two student-athletes.

Two student trainers – Memorial’s Katia Mosley and Dobie’s Jeffrey Tyer – received scholarships awarded by the Memorial Hermann Hospital System.

The Class of 2015 inductees join 26 other former Pasadena ISD athletes and coaches previously enshrined in the Hall of Fame Museum at Phillips Field House.
