5915Sophomore Jade Giron hit a pair of rare three-pointers Monday night, but it wasn’t enough to keep Dobie from falling to Friendswood, 32-27, on the opening night of the 2014-15 girls basketball season.

Playing at home, the Lady Longhorns couldn’t overcome turnovers and missed shots, especially from the free-throw line. Dobie made only 14 of 31 foul shots and had three players foul out.

Friendswood fared just as poorly from the line, hitting only 17 of 38. Of the combined 59 points in the game, 31 were scored on free throws.

Giron scored a team-high eight points.

Junior Alex Frank-Houser led Friendswood with nine.

Friendswood led by just a 14-13 margin at halftime and 20-19 going into the final quarter before scoring seven straight points to open up a 27-19 lead.

The other four Pasadena ISD girls teams swing into action on Tuesday. Boys teams begin play next week.
