Joe Gonzalez, Dobie's quarterback, races 15 yards for a touchdown late in the first half.
5047Dobie quarterback Joe Gonzalez ran for three touchdowns and threw for another as the Longhorns clinched third place in the District 22-6A race with a 56-21 victory over Rayburn on Friday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Although the Longhorns were able to race to a 42-7 halftime lead and post an easy victory, Rayburn freshman Stanley Hackett made the night a memorable one for the Texans.

Hackett piled up 198 yards on 35 carries and scored TDs on runs of 31, 9 and 8 yards.

The victory was the fifth straight for the Longhorns after four consecutive losses to open the season. Now 5-2 in district play, Dobie owns a half-game lead on Pearland Dawson, which finished the regular season on Thursday.

Even if the Longhorns lose to Memorial in their season finale next week, they’ll still claim third place on the basis of having beaten Dawson. Dobie will enter the Division I portion of the state playoffs with a first-round clash against North Shore the likely possibility.

Gonzalez scored on runs of 29, 15 and 53 yards. He also threw an 11-yard TD pass to Jaylon Bolden, who earlier scored on a one-yard run.

Dobie's Carlos Gonzalez (51) brings down Rayburn's Armando Garcia while teammate Sam Hart closes on the play.

Dobie's Gage Peete-Meyers hauls down Rayburn's Edward Cruz, causing a fumble on a kickoff return.

Rayburn's Stanley Hackett looks for running room.
