3357Pearland quarterback Jake Blumrick needed only 10 pass attempts to pile up 261 yards and two touchdowns on Saturday night as the Oilers bumped South Houston from a tie for first place in District 22-6A with a 49-7 victory at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The Oilers scored on their first four possessions and added a defensive TD to take a 35-0 lead before the first quarter was complete.

Blumrick opened the scoring with a one-yard TD plunge. After Deonte Givens returned a midair fumble 23 yards for another Oilers TD, Blumrick connected with Jonathan Sam for a 32-yard TD strike – all within five minutes of the opening kickoff.

Late in the first half, Blumrick found Ryan Deshotel from 65 yards out.

Blumrick completed nine of his 10 pass attempts in the contest.

The Trojans avoided the shutout with 3:23 left in the game when Richard Jackson found the end zone from five yards out.

Tatum Girdy, South Houston’s starting quarterback, was held out of the game in the first half and played only on defense in the second. Backup quarterback Joshua Williams did not complete any of his four pass attempts and was intercepted once.

Pearland punted only once in the game and committed no turnovers.

The Oilers stand 5-0 for the season and 3-0 in district play. The Trojans fell to 2-1 in district action and 2-3 overall.
