1054Darrell Hubbard raced 71 yards for a touchdown on his only carry of the game, enough to jump-start Aldine Davis to a 36-0 victory over Memorial on Friday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The Mavericks, who’ll take a 0-2 record into the start of District 22-6A play next week, managed just 130 yards of offense and failed to average one yard per rushing attempt.

The victory was the first ever at the varsity level for Davis, which opened just two years ago.

Falcon’s quarterback Isaac Jackson fattened his team’s early 21-0 lead with two long TD strikes. Jackson connected with KeShaun Wells for a 64-yard TD in the second and with Calvin Davenport from 75 yards out in the fourth.

The two TDs accounted for half of Jackson’s four completions in the game.

Memorial quarterback Izrael Trevino accounted for 123 of his team’s 130 yards. The Mavericks’ junior rushed for 25 yards and passed for 98. Memorial’s offensive hopes were stymied by three interceptions.

The Mavericks open district play next Saturday against Pasadena.
