Elementary Winner
Meador Elementary third-grader Marcelo Saucedo took home the Best of Show ribbon in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo School Art Contest.

Pasadena ISD Fine Arts programs produced another record-breaking win earlier this month when Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo officials selected 21 student artists to showcase their artwork at this year’s rodeo.

Sam Rayburn High students accounted for 11 of the 21 selections with one Best of Show, two Gold Medals, and eight Special Merit awards. Pasadena Memorial High placed three students in the Special Merit category, and Dobie High School claimed two Special Merit awards.

Meador Elementary’s Marcelo Saucedo, Southmore Intermediate’s Israel Jimenez and Sam Rayburn’s Jairo Cordova walked away with the Best of Show ribbons.

Gold Medal winners went to Fidel Cantu and Vanessa Sosa from Sam Rayburn.

In addition, Karla Gonzalez from DeZavala Middle claimed the Elementary Gold Medal award while Southmore Intermediate’s Spencer Libby snagged the Gold Medal award in the junior category.

A total of 14 Special Merit Awards were earned by the following students: Dobie High students Christian H. Herrera and Linh Pham; Pasadena Memorial students Sadie Burt, Wesley Lewis and Amy Truong; and Sam Rayburn High students Marcos Garcia, Felipe Cantu, Rubi Trujillo, Laura Garza, Alexis Juarez, Ana Cisneros, Marivi Rodriguez and Lisandro Andrade.

The winning artwork will be on exhibit at the rodeo's Hayloft Gallery at the Reliant Center Stadium beginning March 4 through the last day of the rodeo, March 23.

High school students will advance to the Grand Prix round for a chance to sell their artwork at auction. They will compete against districts across the state in hopes of securing college scholarship funds.

Earlier this month, an estimated 500 spectators attended the rodeo art open house at the Administration Building. The exhibit showcased all rodeo art submissions from district students in elementary through high school.
