5808A late end-zone interception by Pasadena's Jeriel Williams closed out a wild, season-ending rivalry showdown with Rayburn and sealed a 28-21 victory for the Eagles at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Friday night.

Trying desperately to avoid a winless campaign, the Texans played their best game of the season, taking a 21-14 lead into the second half before a litany of turnovers and penalties took their toll.

Two of the Pasadena's four touchdowns were set up by fourth-down snaps over the punter's head and recovered by the Eagles.

Pasadena, which finished the season at 4-6 and 3-5 in District 22-6A play, had its problems, as well. An interception by Rayburn's Gilberto Pellegaud on an ill-advised pass late in the first half led to a short drive and the Texans' go-ahead score with 56 seconds to go before intermission.

Texans quarterback Andres Martinez dashed in from seven yards out to give Rayburn its 21-14 lead.

The Eagles finally got things sorted out in the second half.

Melvin Reyes tied the game on a two-yard run early in the third quarter. After Rayburn's second punting miscue, Pasadena quarterback Valor Ojeda scored from two yards out to break the tie.

The Texans' last chance to tie or win the game ended with Williams' end-zone interception.

Rayburn jumped to a surprising 14-0 lead in the first quarter on a two-yard TD pop by freshman Stanley Hackett and a 35-yard TD pass from Martinez to Armando Garcia on a fourth-and-eight call.

The Eagles remained bottled up until Uriel Hill broke an 81-yard punt return in the second quarter for their first points. After the Texans' first punting team gaffe, Hill tied the game with a 33-yard TD reception from Ojeda.

Rayburn won the statistics battle as Hackett piled up 141 yards on 32 carries.

The Texans finished the season 0-10 for the season and winless in their last 17 contests dating back to last fall.
