4338Memorial quarterback Izrael Trevino hooked up with Nicholas Fuselier for three touchdown passes on Friday night as the Mavericks broke away from Rayburn in the fourth quarter and posted a 48-26 victory in a battle of winless teams at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The Texans twice took leads in the first quarter. A 75-yard TD pass from Rayburn quarterback Andres Martinez to freshman Stanley Hackett lifted the Texans to a 13-6 advantage at the end of the quarter.

But Trevino countered with a 5-yard TD run in the second quarter to tie the game at 13-13. Then, with 53 seconds left in the half, Trevino hit Fuselier from 20 yards out for a 20-13 Mavericks lead at halftime.

Rayburn tied the game at 20-20 in the third quarter on an 18-yard TD run by Hackett. But Trevino hooked up again with Fuselier, this time from 5 yards out, late in the third quarter to give the Mavericks the lead for good.

The Texans scored what looked like a tying TD late in the third quarter. But for the second time in the game, the Rayburn PAT attempt sailed wide, leaving Memorial with a one-point edge.

Memorial then scored 21 unanswered points in the final six minutes of the game.

The Mavericks stand 1-4 in District 22-6A play and 1-6 overall. Rayburn is 0-4 in district play and 0-6 overall.
