Six Pasadena ISD schools were recently named “America’s Healthiest Schools” by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, out of 461 schools nationwide.

Turner Elementary and Red Bluff Elementary took home the silver award, while Milstead Middle School, Sparks Elementary, Matthys Elementary and South Houston High School took home the bronze.

The schools earned the distinction for successfully meeting a rigorous set of criteria, including:
serving healthier meals and snacks;
getting students to move more;
offering high-quality physical and health education;
and empowering school leaders to become healthy role models.

“In Pasadena ISD, we truly believe that healthy, active students make better learners and that every child deserves a healthy school,” said Amber Macneish, coordinated school health specialist. “This award honors the efforts that our schools have made to ensure a healthy learning environment.”

Each recognized school participates in Healthier Generation’s landmark Healthy Schools Program - one of the nation’s largest school-based childhood obesity prevention initiatives that has worked with more than 35,000 schools, serving over 20 million students since 2006.
