Dr. DeeAnn Powell assumed the role of superintendent of the Pasadena Independent School District on February 1, 2016.

She is the first graduate of Pasadena ISD schools to be appointed superintendent, having attended L.F. Smith and Williams elementaries, Queens Intermediate and Pasadena High School. She participated in various extracurricular activities while in school including drill team as a member of the PHS Eagle Escorts, basketball, volleyball and track.

Superintendent Powell earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology and history from Sam Houston State University, a master’s degree in educational management and her doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. 

Dr. Powell has worked for Pasadena ISD since 1991.  She has served in various roles during her tenure at Jackson Intermediate including history teacher, peer facilitator, assistant principal and principal. She later served as an associate superintendent of campus development and a deputy superintendent. 

Among her accomplishments, Dr. Powell was named the Pasadena ISD Teacher of the Year in 1997 and Secondary Principal of the Year in 2004.  She is a member of the Pasadena Lion’s Club and Rotary Club. She also serves on the board of directors for Gulf Coast Educators Federal Credit Union and the Pasadena ISD Education Foundation. 

She is the first female superintendent in the history of the Pasadena ISD. On her first day, the Board of Trustees proclaimed February 1, 2016 as Dr. DeeAnn Powell Day throughout the district.

She is married to Lance, a police detective with the Pasadena Police Department.  Together they have four children: Andrew, who attends the U.S. Naval Academy; Mason, a Texas A&M student; Dawson, an eleventh grade football player; and Caitlyn, a high school freshman involved in theater and debate.

Dr. Powell is passionate about challenging students to reach their full potential and providing a safe and caring environment where each child can succeed.  Always striving for excellence, she envisions Pasadena ISD becoming the best school district in the state.
