Samantha Cortez is a bilingual math teacher at Red Bluff Elementary who is knocking it out the park in her classroom.

She strives to create a positive learning environment while also ensuring that students have the tools they need to be successful. Her passion for teaching has helped countless students reach their academic potential.

Beyond the classroom, Cortez is a team leader, participating in the district’s Aspiring Peer Facilitator Academy and the Emerging Teacher Leaders in K-4 Mathematics Academy.

Cortez was recently recognized for going above and beyond in the classroom by the Houston Astros and ConocoPhillips as a “Math Teacher of the Month” during their Oct. 10th baseball game.

Cortez is among only six teachers selected for recognition for the 2021 season.

She was also named the 2021 grand prize winner after her name was picked in a random drawing.

As a Math Teacher of the Month, Cortez was awarded:

  • $1,000 donation to Red Bluff Elementary,
  • $100 gift card for the purchase of classroom supplies,
  • Multiple game tickets,
  • ConocoPhillips and Houston Astros gift package,
  • Pre-game radio interview,
  • Recognition on the ConocoPhillips website,

The Astros also held a celebration in her honor at her campus with the Astros mascot as the special guest, along with district administrators.

As a grand prize winner, Cortez will receive a free trip to the Houston Astros spring training camp in Florida. The prize includes two round-trip airline tickets, a one night’s hotel stay, game tickets and a VIP viewing of the Astros batting practice.
