J. Frank Dobie High School continued its tradition of honoring distinguished alumni and faculty as part of its annual Hall of Honor induction ceremony.

The event kicked off with an intimate reception in the auditorium foyer, followed by the main event in the school’s auditorium, where five individuals, including four graduates and a faculty member were recognized in front of their family members, friends, district and campus leaders, along with community members. This brings the total number of inductees to 59.

The honorees are:

Larry Neumann (class of 1970), former Dobie and Nederland High School coach

David Jackson (class of 1981), NASA engineer

Alysia Raycraft (class of 1986), filmmaker and former costume designer for season 5-9 of “The Office”

John Evans (1986), multi-award winning Texas musician, artist and philanthropist

David Chollett, former faculty member and coach

Special guests in attendance included School Board President Marshall Kendrick, Superintendent of Schools Dr. DeeAnn Powell, Associate Superintendent of Campus Development Alyta Harrell, Dobie Principal Jorly Thomas and Franklin Moses, former principal of Dobie.

The ceremony began with the presentation of colors, followed by a performance by the school choir.

Dobie English teacher Shane Brown served as the master of ceremonies for the evening. He introduced each inductee before they walked across the stage to receive their commemorative plaques and take a picture with Dr. Powell and Principal Thomas.

At the end of the induction ceremony, Dobie also announced the winners of the Hall of Honor Scholarship award. The students were presented with a big check for $4,000 that will go toward each recipient’s first four semesters of post-secondary education.

The scholarship recipients are:

  • Jeremiah Palma
  • Ashley Pham
  • Timothy Giang
  • and Mia Horton

This brings the total number of scholarship recipients to 29, with a total of more than $113,000 that has been awarded over the past six years of its existence.

After the induction ceremony, the honorees and guests poured into the hallway to add their plaques to the Dobie Hall of Honor Wall.

“I can tell you from years of experience at Dobie that when students walk these hallways they will stop and look at the faces on the wall and they will ask when they can add their plaques to the wall too. You are an inspiration to students here at Dobie High School,” Moses said as the evening came to a close.
