PISD hosted its annual Walk for Success event on Saturday, September 21.

As part of the event, teachers, administrators and staff visited the homes of former high school students who had not re-enrolled in for the academic year. While some employees paid home visits to students, other staff members made phone calls to former students’ homes. Whether it was door to door or via phone, students were offered support and encouraged to complete their education.

Walk for Success was created to help high school students who are a few credits away from graduation receive their high school diploma through various methods including: Community School, Virtual School, TAKS prep courses or regular classroom attendance.

This year’s participants passed out new flyers detailing the harmful impact of dropping out of school. Along with flyers, this year’s Walk for Success debuted a new slogan encouraging students to, “Don’t Drop Out. Reach Out.”

Angela Stallings, associate superintendent of campus development, said, “The importance of this event is to remind us of our collective commitment of getting kids who have left our district, not just from Harvey but for any number of reasons, back to school.”
